Advanced processing
Our processing facilites are generally designed around Programmable
Logic Controls. We use computers for automation of the
electromechanical processes involved in processing and distributing our
salmon and trout using assembly lines. This advanced machinery requires
daily maintainance and regular observation by our experienced employees
around the world.
For example, our smolt and
harvesting plants in Finnmark have recently gone through an extensive
modernization process, and have increased their annual production
capacity to 28.000 tons gutted weight.
Water recirculation
At
our hatchery in British Columbia, we have installed a state-of-the art
recirculation system. This system provides an energy efficient stream
of water at 14°C, increasing average smolt size and decreasing
production time considerably. When ready, the smolts are entered into
our sea sites, where they grow for about two years.
Effective harvesting
Using
two dedicated harvesting vessels, market fish are delivered directly to
a processing plant and from there, shipped directly to market within 72
hours. Through this process, Grieg Seafood BC is able to provide fresh
fish to customers in Los Angeles, Toronto, or even Tokyo – all year
round.
